Not sure if you tried this or if you do subscribe to Bell or Rogers. Did you get a “closed line”?

If you subscribe to Bell or Rogers for other services such as Internet etc. You can get what I believe they call a “closed line”. This is just a phone number but has no function except for “buzzing”. There is no charge for this.

I’ve lived in the building for over seven years and went a few years without a landline and the buzzer *did* work. The problem is, is the phone company has disabled it and when you ditch your landline, you’ll need them to reconnect it. Hope this helps.

Although someone said you could use the buzzer system without a landline, it turns out you can’t. A request was sent to the board as something to investigate but I don’t think it is a priority project due to cost of changing the system.

No, you can’t use your cell phone. The intercom only works with a regular phone hooked up to the phone jack. HOWEVER, the neat thing is that you DON’T need land line service from Bell, etc. to buzz someone in. You just need to have a phone hooked up to the phone jack. I only have cell phone service but I have a regular phone hooked up to the jack just for the intercom. The intercom system will call your line just as if you received a phone call from someone else. You pick up the phone and talk to the guest as normal and then press 6 to let them in (i believe they changed it from 9 to 6 at some point, but not sure… i just press 6 and then 9 to make sure).
